How to use artificial intelligence for job hunting?

Artificial Intelligence – AI – is a hot topic right now. Some people are in favor, others are against it. However, artificial intelligence applications such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or Claude.ai can be valuable assistants. These tools can help you in many ways in your job search.

Identifying competences

You can use AI to understand your own skills. For example, write in your own words what jobs and tasks you have done and ask the AI to analyze what skills you have based on these. You may notice hidden skills or realize the value of highlighting competences that were self-evident. Use the competences analysis in your job search to ensure that you include your most important skills.

By the way, it pays off to be polite when prompting AI assistant. Tell them you rely on their expertise and their answers are crucial to your future employment. You may get better results!

Finding suitable jobs

Let the AI find the right jobs for you. Once you have outlined your expertise, you can prompt the AI to list tasks and jobs that demand your expertise. If you have an AI tool that can directly search information on the internet, you can also ask for links to interesting job postings.

Writing the application and CV

Copy the description of the job you are applying for into the AI chat and ask it to tell you what skills you should emphasize in your applications.

If the writer’s block strikes when you start writing an application, ask the AI to write you a draft application. Edit, supplement and personalize the draft with your own examples, achievements etc. Writing in cooperation with an AI assistant may be easier and you can get some new ideas on how to talk about your skills in interesting ways.

Remember, however, that AI does not replace you as the author of the application. Your application and CV may seem “bot-like” and are likely to be too generic if you use them as such.

Practice for a job interview

Enter the job description in the AI chat and ask for interview questions based on the text. Answer the questions and ask the AI to analyze your answers and give you tips on how to improve them.

Ask the AI to create questions that you yourself can ask during the interview. Tell the AI what kind of position you are applying for and what your key competence is related to the job. You can also provide your CV or LinkedIn profile. However, remember that if you enter your data – like a CV – into an AI, the data will remain at its disposal and you will not be able to know with certainty how it will be used later.

Also, do not rely on the AI while in an interview. There is no way you can focus on both the answers given by the AI and your own genuine thinking. If the AI both answers for and questions for you, your own thoughts and experiences will be absent from the interview discussion. Who is in the job search? You.

AI can provide valuable help in your job search, but your personality, skills and way of working are still crucial. These human qualities are what ultimately impress recruiters and help you find a job that really suits you.

The “Muutostöissä” campaign aims to awaken awareness for the possibilities of a culturally diverse working life

A change in attitude is necessary and the responsibility belongs to everyone in the workplace.

This shift in mindset is required to ensure Finnish working life remains competitive and achieves cultural equality. The “Muutostöissä” campaign, starting on the 5th of September, will bring attention to the barriers that hinder a culturally diverse working life: ignorance, biases, and beliefs.

In the “Muutostöissä” social impact campaign, the initiators of the discussion are 20 social media influencers from various cultural backgrounds living in Finland. The campaign’s financing is provided and supported in communication by over 20 organizations, including cities, educational institutions, NGOs, and significant players in the labor and business sector.

Why is Suomen Ekonomit involved in the campaign?

  • We are working to promote sustainable working life and economic growth. These are important for both individuals and for the well-being of Finland’s economy.
  • The number of working-age Finns is decreasing. We need labor-related immigration to ensure tax revenue and prevent the decline of the public sector.

How does cultural diversity appear in the daily life of Suomen Ekonomit?

  • Our community of 60,000 business school students and graduates is culturally diverse. Our services are also available in English.
  • We educate our staff and representatives on inclusivity matters.
  • We collaborate with IWWOF and Inklusiiv.

What concrete actions do we take to support a culturally diverse working life?

  • We produce research data and communication on these topics.
  • We gave a voice to fourteen immigrants working in Finland. The pamphlet is distributed to all Members of Parliament.
  • We organize working life courses in English to help international business students find employment in Finland.

From multiple channels, from several different perspectives: this is how we tackle change

The influencers taking part in the “Muutostöissä” campaign offer personal experiences from varying backgrounds: job seekers, workers, and employers.

The themes the campaign influencers will highlight include cultural literacy as a modern work-life skill, cultural realities in Finnish working life, and daily life as a job seeker, employer, and entrepreneur with a diverse background.

The campaign channels include Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube. Campaign content will be published on various social media channels during September.
