Milloin aloitit, missä tiimissä ja mitä tehtäviisi kuuluu? / When did you start, in which team, and what are your duties?
Nik: I started on August 1st at the customer experience team. My main duty is to promote and make aware of Suomen Ekonomit and its services to business students at Aalto and act as a key link between Ekonomit and Aalto.
Siiri: Aloitin 1.8. kylteriyhdyshenkilönä asiakaskokemustiimissä. Toimin Jyväskylän yliopiston tietojärjestelmätieteen opiskelijoiden eli Dumpin kyllinä. Tehtäviini kuuluu muun muassa Ekonomien toiminnasta ja tarjonnasta tiedottaminen opiskelijoille sekä Ekonomien edustaminen meidän yliopistoyhteisössä.
Kuka olet ja mistä tulet? / Who are you and where do you come from?
Nik: I am from Chennai, India. I am excited by different cultures and languages in the world and my impossible wish is to know all the languages in the world, so that I can see the world through different eyes. This made me to pursue bachelor’s in the northern India, where I learnt a new language and also made me to come to Aalto for my exchange in Spring 2020. I loved my experience and came back as Master’s student at Aalto School of Business in August 2023. My defining traits would be calmness, curiosity and compassion. I like to play chess, read books, meditate and learn Finnish.
Siiri: Asustelen Jyväskylässä ja opiskelen siellä tietojärjestelmätiedettä nyt pian toista vuotta. Tätä ennen opiskelin vuoden ammattikorkeakoulussa. Alun perin olen kotoisin Sysmästä, joka on pikkupaikkakunta nelostien varrella. Järjestöpuolella olen ehtinyt olla tosi monessa mukana ja ”järjestöurani” on alkanut jo lukioaikana Suomen Lukiolaisten Liitosta. Työkokemusta minulla on hieman markkinoinnista, mutta pääasiassa erilaisista aspahommista.
Mikä sai sinut hakemaan Ekonomeille töihin? / What made you apply to work at Ekonomit?
Nik: I know the importance of a union especially in voicing the opinions of their members and Suomen Ekonomit does a wonderful job in catering to all things employment related to its members. The impact and importance of working in Suomen Ekonomit and creating awareness in my university gives an immense responsibility and purpose that made me to apply for this role. And also the possibility of working alongside smart colleagues and Kyllis from other universities made the decision to apply more easier.
Siiri: Olin kuullut tosi paljon hyvää Ekonomeista ja kyllin työstä. Ajattelin heti rekryilmoituksen nähtyäni tämän olevan ”se mun juttu”. Lisäksi koen, että Suomen Ekonomeilla on tärkeä rooli tulevaisuuteni rakentajina, joten on mukava kantaa kortensa kekoon.
Mikä fiilis jäi ensimmäisestä työviikosta? / What was your impression after the first week of work?
Nik: My first week was smooth and lovely. I already knew about Ekonomit and some of the colleagues, so it seemed like a familiar place and it was an easy transition.
Siiri: Työt on alkaneet mukavasti ja hommat ovat lähteneet rullaamaan. On ollut mukavaa päästä tutustumaan perehdytysten muodossa työkavereihin, sekä perehtymään kyllin työhön. Tästä tämä lähtee!
Mikä sinua motivoi työssäsi? / What motivates you in your work?
Nik: Creating awareness about Ekonomit and providing information to the students knowing that it will help them in a significant way, and working alongside wonderful colleagues makes me motivated for this journey.
Siiri Minua motivoi, että pääsen kehittämään ympäristöäni ja samalla itse kehittymään. Kyllin työssä lisäksi motivoi ihmiset niin Ekonomien puolelta kuin omalta yliopistolta. Tässä työssä pääsee todellakin hyödyntämään omaa sosiaalista luonnetta!
Jos olisit fiktiivinen hahmo, niin mikä olisit? / If you were a fictional character, who would you be?
Nik: Batman, forever! I am a huge fan of Batman especially because of his qualities rather than the abilities. My most favourite quote is from Nolan’s Batman – “It’s not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me” showing how actions are the one that defines us and I totally agree with that.
