”BizPotential 2025 was an intense two-day competition with a great, friendly atmosphere. The teams created impressively high-quality case solutions in just a few hours. The jury had a tough job, and we warmly congratulate every participant and team. All in all, the competition was a fantastic event. I want to sincerely thank all the teams, participants and everyone who helped make it happen”, said Mika Parkkari, Chair of the Jury and Senior Advisor in Labour Market Affairs and Public Policy at Suomen Ekonomit.
Biz Potential is a competition for business students, organised by Suomen Ekonomit and Danske Bank. It challenges student teams to demonstrate their business skills through a mix of theoretical questions and case assignments.
The winning team from SHS took home a €3,000 prize and the title of Finnish “kylteri” champion. The first team from Probba ry came in second and received €2,000, while the second team from Probba placed third and was awarded €1,000. The top three teams will also go on to represent Finland in the Nordic Championship in Business and Economics, a competition for business and economics students from across the Nordic countries, which will be held in Finland in autumn 2025.
“It was a really fun competition. I think what set us apart was doing well in the theory competitions and we had different type of solution to the case than the others – we thought big”, reflected Robert Hakkarainen and Santtu Pelkonen from the winning team.
Biz Potential 2025 was open to all student members of Suomen Ekonomit. The online qualifying round, held in March, attracted 53 teams. The best-performing team from each student association advanced to the finals, held at the University of Oulu. As Turun KY and Warrantti did not enter a team, the next two highest-ranking teams in the overall results were invited to fill the remaining spots, allowing Finanssi and Probba to send a second team each.
During the final weekend, the 15 teams completed a theory test and a demanding case assignment. Based on their combined scores, the top four teams advanced to Super Final, held during the Saturday evening dinner. In the Super Final, the teams took the stage and responded to fast-paced multiple-choice questions.
”It was an amazing opportunity to get to work on a project like this right at the beginning of my kylli-journey. We had teams from all around Finland, and it was wonderful to see such enthusiastic and active participation from every team throughout the entire competition! Hopefully, the same level of engagement will continue in the coming years as well,” said Tiina Marjaranta, Project Manager of the event.
